Summer Cold Brew at Home

Cold brew is dead simple, incredibly smooth, and the perfect way to enjoy coffee when the weather warms up.

What Is Cold Brew?

Cold brew is coffee brewed with cold or room-temperature water over 12–24 hours. The slow extraction produces a concentrate that's naturally sweeter, lower in acidity, and incredibly smooth.

It's not the same as iced coffee (which is hot-brewed coffee poured over ice). Cold brew has its own distinct character.

The Recipe

Ratio: 1:8 (coffee to water by weight)

You need:

  • 100g coarsely ground coffee
  • 800ml cold filtered water
  • A jar or French press
  • A strainer or cheesecloth

Method:

  1. Combine coffee and water in your jar
  2. Stir gently
  3. Cover and refrigerate for 16–20 hours
  4. Strain through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
  5. Store concentrate in the fridge (keeps for 2 weeks)

To serve: Dilute 1:1 with water or milk. Serve over ice.

Best Beans for Cold Brew

Use something with natural sweetness and low acidity. Our Colombian Huila is perfect — the caramel and chocolate notes become even more pronounced when cold-brewed. Our House Blend is also excellent.

Avoid very light, fruity roasts — the delicate flavours get lost in cold extraction.
