A Beginner's Guide to Pour-Over Coffee
Pour-over is the simplest way to brew exceptional coffee at home. Here's everything you need to know to get started.
Why Pour-Over?
Pour-over coffee is about control. You control the water temperature, the pour rate, and the brew time. The result is a cup that's cleaner, brighter, and more nuanced than anything a drip machine can produce.
What You Need
- A pour-over dripper (we recommend the Hario V60 or Chemex)
- A gooseneck kettle
- Freshly ground coffee (medium-fine)
- A scale
- A timer
The Basic Method
- Heat water to 93–96°C (just off the boil)
- Rinse the filter with hot water, then discard
- Add 15g of coffee for every 250ml of water
- Bloom: Pour just enough water to saturate the grounds (about 2× the coffee weight). Wait 30 seconds.
- Pour slowly in concentric circles, keeping the water level consistent
- Total brew time: 2:30–3:30 minutes
Tips
- Grind fresh. Always. Pre-ground coffee loses flavour within minutes.
- Use filtered water. Tap water minerals affect taste.
- Start with our House Blend — it's forgiving and delicious at any ratio.
